LIVE: Man stands trial for murder of Sunderland schoolgirl Nicki Allan

The defendant, 55-year-old David Thomas Boyd, of Chesterton Court, Norton, Stockton, denies the murder of Nikki Allan, near her home in Wear Garth, in the East End of Sunderland, in October 1992. Jurors in waiting were told he had also been known under previous surnames of ‘Smith’ and ‘Bell’. The potential jury members were also told that another man, George Heron, previously stood trial for Nikki’s murder, at Leeds Crown Court, in 1993. Jury selection was to have been completed overnight prior to the scheduled trial opening today.
